The AccentHealth Medical Advisory Board regularly reviews and screens all content and sponsor messages that air on AccentHealth. The Advisory Board for patient education is comprised of the following Board Certified practicing physicians:


H. James Brownlee Jr., MD

Chairman, AccentHealth Medical Advisory Board
Medical Director of Monsour Executive Wellness Center
Former Professor and Chairman, Department of Family Medicine University of South Florida, College of Medicine

Dr. Brownlee received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Houghton College in New York and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

He completed his residency in the Williamsport Hospital of Family Practice Residency program in Pennsylvania, followed by a teaching fellowship in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Miami in Florida and a geriatric fellowship at the Geriatric Education Center of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

He is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and of the National Board of Medical Examiners. A member of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, Dr. Brownlee is also the author of numerous books, chapters, and articles in publications such as American Family Physician, Consultant, and Diagnosis and Treatment of Parkinson's Disease—A Handbook for Primary Care Physicians.

John Carter, MD

Chief, Division of Rheumatology

Dr. John Carter is an Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Rheumatology, University of South Florida Health, where he also serves as the Director of Clinical Research. After graduating from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1996 he completed his internal medicine and rheumatology fellowship at the University of South Florida.

Dr. Carter’s research focus is on Chlamydia-induced arthritis, and in 2006, he was awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study a novel treatment for the disease. Since that time he has been awarded over $1 million in investigator-initiated grants.

His other research interests include reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoporosis, and drug safety.

Dr. Carter has published more than 50 original peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters. Currently, Dr. Carter is the principal investigator for 11 clinical trials. He lectures extensively and has presented his research on a local, regional, and national level.

Nicholas G. Fallieras, MD

Drs. Yelverton, Lerner, and Kilbride
Tampa, Florida

Dr. Nicholas Fallieras has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Tampa since 1977.

He attended Pennsylvania State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1962, followed by a Master of Business Administration in 1964. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 1972, where he was elected to the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated first in his class. After completing his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Dr. Fallieras came to Tampa in 1977 to practice with Tampa OB/GYN Associates. He joined Drs. Yelverton, Lerner, and Kilbride in 1989.

Dr. Fallieras holds a Florida medical license and is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Florida OB/GYN Society and the Florida Medical Association. He has served as chief of OB/GYN at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital.

Dalys Gilling, MD

Dr. Dalys Gilling is Board Certified in Pediatrics. She received her Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and Preprofessional Studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Dr. Gilling earned her Doctor of Medicine and completed her residency at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. She is a member of the American Medical Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

David Wright, MD

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, Spring Hill, Florida

Dr. David Wright is our newest Medical Advisory Board member and is Board-certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine. Dr. Wright cares for patients at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute.

Philip Adler, MD, F.A.A.P.

Chairman Emeritus, AccentHealth Medical Advisory Board

Dr. Adler served as Chairman of the AccentHealth Medical Advisory Board from 1997 to 2012 and is currently Chairman Emeritus. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Vermont; completed his internship and residency at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston, MA; and served as Chief Resident for the Medical Out-Patient Department and as a teaching fellow at Harvard Medical School. He has published several articles in professional journals and is active in the community and as a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics for the University of South Florida. Dr. Adler is a member of the Hillsborough County Pediatric Society, Hillsborough County Medical Association, Florida Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
